High Speed Chase through Kansas City

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – A high speed chase through Kansas City ended Wednesday morning with the female driver in custody.

Kansas City police received a call from a resident in the 5800 block of Wayne Wednesday morning that a suspicious person was repeatedly knocking on the door.

When officers arrived at the scene, the suspect took off.

Police say 40-year-old Devella White led officers in a chase from 54th and Wayne through surface streets and on 71 Highway. The chase ended around 9:30 a.m. near 71 Highway and Blue Ridge Boulevard at the Truman Corners shopping complex.

Speeds during the 45-minute chase reached as high as 100 miles per hour while on the highway. Several times, White averted stop sticks placed in the streets by police in an attempt to stop her.

Despite driving at recklessly high speeds and blowing through several stop lights, White managed to not collide with any other vehicles during the chase.

Police tell us White’s vehicle matched the description of the suspect vehicle in several recent burglaries, including one Wednesday morning near where the chase started.

White eventually pulled over and was arrested by police.

White was taken into custody following the chase. She was charged on Thursday with resisting arrest and driving with a revoked license.

Authorities say White has a lengthy criminal history and several outstanding warrants.
