Falling for Kansas City

Since we arrived in Kansas City, Mo. (circa January 1, 2010), it has been snow, snow, and snow. I feel like a child again. Everything is so white and beautiful, reminiscent of the snow globes I used to shake up in my grandmother’s study. I can’t stop buying those 2-hour fire logs as well.  I think I  know everyone at the  local convenient store. Folks around our neighborhood keep saying that there’s not been a snow storm like this in  20 years and I feel so lucky to be here! Coming from Chattanooga, Tn., my experience with snow storms usually starts with a half of an inch and ends with 1 inch, of course the schools are still closed and local grocery stores’ inventory annihilated :-)  Here however, I am now proud to have finally experienced “Show Me” snow in my new home in the Show Me State.  You can take a look at my latest commercial Falling for Kansas City. Love you all, Micah

Micah and Najahe: Sedona, Arizona. First Installment

It was a little before noon and there wasn’t a cloud in the sky. We arrived in Phoenix and were headed for Sedona, a small town two hours South. People from all over the world know of Sedona, Arizona. It’s a gathering site, and a watering hole, for the more esoteric of travelers and explorers.

Orbologists, Transcendentalists, Yogis, and Astro Travelers are just a few of the fold who look upon it as home, not to mention former Republican-nominee John McCain, who keeps a house there.

As we neared Sedona we saw a sign for a gas station. Outside the dusty store, an older gentleman sat and played his guitar. He told us about a town not far from there, named Jerome. “It was a ghost town and then hippies and artists moved up there, and turned the whole place upside down” he said.

For Foodies and Outdoorsies, Manitou and Colorado Springs is a must!

There is something so wonderful about sharing great food and wine with good friends in the ambiance of an intimate atmosphere. Especially when it’s filled with meaningful conversation and tummy aching laughs.

Recently, one of my dearest friends invited us to vacation with them at their family retreat nestled in the Pikes Peak mountain of Colorado. The crisp mountain air and densely populated forest provided an amazing canvas for a much needed vacation. We spent most nights in the comfort of our digs, but anticipated our one night fine dining splurge.

At our hosts’ recommendation, we made dinner reservations at the The Black Bear Restaurant in Manitou springs. We found the concept of “The Black Bear” interesting:

No defined menu, select how many meal courses you like – five, seven, or twelve; then it’s up to the chef. We went with the seven-course option along with the recommended wine pairing and three entertaining hours later (I blame on the wine pairing), we headed back to our retreat with satisfied tummies.
