It’s not everyday that you have the opportunity to give away a $300,000 home, so you can imagine our excitement when KSLA News 12 partnered with Community Renewal International for the House for Hope dream home giveaway.
KSLA News 12’s four-month raffle sale fueled the project, and the money raised went to build what’s called a “Friendship House” in Shreveport’s Queensborough neighborhood. A Friendship House is a safe haven of sorts for low-income, high-crime neighborhoods. It’s a community center that provides a positive outlet for those looking to escape their tough circumstances. It also provides after-school education programs, character building, service projects, GED courses, tutoring, computer training, art and music lessons, family nights and much more.
With anticipation building, a member of Community Renewal International pulled one lucky name from the churning raffle wheel and made the announcement, “The winner is Diane Egans!”
In a live television moment, we reached Diane on her cell phone with the good news. “I am just overwhelmed,” Diane said. Diane told us that she bought the $100 raffle ticket because she wanted to help the community and never imagined she would win anything.
Congratulations Diane! Congratulations to everyone in Shreveport’s Queensborough neighborhood ~
